Pursuant to the Article 65 of the Law of Higher Education (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia,” No. 88/17, 27/18 – other law, 73/18, 67/19, 6/20 – other laws, 11/21 – authentic interpretation, 67/21, 67/21 – other law, and 76/23), the Article 43 of the Statute of the University of Niš, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, The Academic-Scientific Council, at its session on 20 February 2025, after a proposal by the Collegium, adopted the following

 

on the organization of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering

 

Article 1

The University of Niš, Faculty of Electronic Engineering (the Faculty, further in the text) has been accredited to organize teaching in English language within the study program of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing for the acquisition of the academic title Bachelor (B.Sc.) with Honours in Electrical Engineering and Computing (B.E.Eng.Comp. (Hons)).

Article 2

The studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language are realized in accordance with the Law on Higher Education, Statute of the University of Niš, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, Rulebook on Undergraduate Academic Studies of the University of Niš, Faculty of Electronic Engineering, and Rulebook on the Organization of Undergraduate Academic Studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering (Rulebook, further in the text).

This Rulebook regulates specific principles of organization and realization of the study program of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language (studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English, further in the text) at the Faculty, in accordance with the general acts of the University of Niš and the Faculty.

Article 3

The undergraduate studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English at the Faculty, in accordance with the accredited study program, last for 4 years (8 semesters).

Article 4

Lectures, tutorials and laboratory exercises within the courses realized at the studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English take place at the Faculty facilities.

Article 5

The Faculty organizes and conducts studies during the academic year, which typically begins on October 1 and lasts for 12 calendar months. The academic year generally includes 42 working weeks, comprising 30 weeks of teaching and 12 weeks for consultations, exam preparation, and exams. The summer break is typically in July and August. The academic year is divided into autumn and spring semesters, each typically consisting of 15 teaching weeks and 6 weeks for consultations, exam preparation, and exams. Teaching is organized and delivered by semesters, in accordance with the Teaching Implementation Plan adopted by the Academic-Scientific Council of the Faculty.

Article 6

The total student workload throughout the studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English equals 240 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits. The total number of credits per one academic year is 60 ECTS credits, 30 ECTS per semester. In order to finish the study program and be awarded diploma of Graduated Electrical and Computer Engineer, a student needs to gain at least 240 ECTS.

Teaching classes during the studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English are held by Faculty teachers and associates who have earned academic titles in relevant scientific fields.

The decisions on the engagement of teachers/associates for teaching in English language are adopted by the Academic-Scientific Council of the Faculty, after the proposals of respective departments. The teaching is performed exclusively in English language, in accordance with the accredited study program.

Before the commencement of an academic (school) year, the teachers and associates involved in teaching in English language sign a statement of consent to participate in the teaching in English language.

Article 7

The studies within the first year (two semesters) are devoted to general engineering knowledge. From the third semester the students are shifted to narrower specializations within the following modules:

  • Electrical Power Engineering;
  • Electronic Devices and Microsystems;
  • Electronics;
    • with the following submodules (from the 4th semester):
      • Electronics – Electronic Circuits and Embedded Systems,
      • Electronics - Multimedia Technologies;
    • Computing and Informatics;
    • Communications and Information Technologies
      • with the following submodules (from the 5th semester):
        • Communications and Information Technologies – Communications and Information Processing,
        • Communications and Information Technologies – System Engineering and Radio Communications;
      • Control Systems.

The Academic-Scientific Council of the Faculty, based on the proposal of the Faculty Collegium, decides which module or modules will be offered to students each year before the announcement of the admission. The admission rules states which module or modules are available for the admission. The Faculty is not obligated to provide studies in all available modules in English, but only in those listed in the admission for the upcoming academic year. Students who begin their studies in a module offered during a particular academic year are guaranteed access to offered courses within that module until they complete their studies.

Article 8

The studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English at the Faculty are taking place in the form of:

  • lecture classes,
  • tutorials classes,
  • laboratory (hands-on) exercises,
  • other forms of active teaching (seminars, case studies),
  • professional practice, carried out in corresponding scientific and research institutions or industry,
  • independent student work in the function of diploma exam preparation, and
  • final thesis in the 8th

All subjects last one semester. Their workload is expressed in the ECTS, where a single ECTS corresponds to a student’s weekly engagement of 25 to 30 hours. Average number of classes is approximately 24 per week, where lectures are about 50% of that number, while the rest goes to tutorials and hands-on laboratory exercises.

Article 9

The number of students to be admitted to the first year of studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English corresponds to the number of students set in the operating license issued to the Faculty by the Ministry of Education of Republic of Serbia and the decision of Academic-Scientific Council of the Faculty for the particular academic year.

Article 10

Teaching is organized according to the Faculty’s annual activity calendar, which is published at the beginning of each academic year, and is an integral part of the teaching plan. The Teaching Plan is adopted by the Faculty’s Academic-Scientific Council before the start of teaching in the upcoming academic year.

The Teaching Plan specifies: the teachers and assistants who will conduct the classes according to the study program; locations for conducting classes; the start and end dates, as well as the timetable for conducting the classes; exam periods; other important facts for the proper conduct of teaching.

Article 11

The call for admission to the first year of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language shall be announced by the University of Niš, after the Faculty proposal containing the number of students to be admitted and tuition fee.

Candidate application dates and entrance exam dates are set in the general provisions of the admission call, and are realized in two terms, the June and September.

Article 12

The candidates may be enrolled in first year of studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language in the way and under conditions as set by the Law of Higher Education of the Republic of Serbia, Rulebook on the Admission to the Study Programs of the University of Niš, Statute of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, and this Rulebook.

The candidates can apply for admission to the first year of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English language if they have graduated from a gymnasium or four-year high school.

Applying for admission, the candidates have to submit the appropriate certificate demonstrating their competence in English language or to pass an English language exam (written test and oral exam) before the Commission appointed by the Dean of the Faculty. The candidates from native English-speaking countries are excluded from this requirement.

The candidates have to pass the entrance exam composed of a written test in Mathematics in English language.

The ranking-list of candidates who meet the criteria for admission will be based on the overall success in previous education level and will be published on the Faculty notice board and the Faculty web page.

After the completion of entrance exam, the Faculty will prepare and publish the final ranking list of candidates, as formulated in the admission call. The list is formed on the basis of overall success in higher education and success at entrance exam.

A candidate may submit a complaint regarding the regularity of the entrance exam and his ranking in the final list to the Commission for Student Admission within 36 hours, and after the Commission’s suggestion the Dean puts forward the decision about the complaint within 24 hours of the receipt of the complaint.

If required, the entrance exam may be realized externally, not at the Faculty site, via electronic means of communication, in a room equipped with video cameras and the computer equipped with a screen monitoring software for recording the whole course of the entrance exam.

The Commission for the entrance exam for the study program of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing is appointed by the Academic-Scientific Council of the Faculty.

The entrance exam is realized under the supervision of a representative of the Commission for the entrance exam.

The representative of the Commission for the entrance exam identifies the candidates applying for the entrance exam via an insight into their identity documents.

The representative of the Commission for the entrance exam controls the work related to the entrance exam in accordance with the Article 7 of the Rulebook on Student Admission to the Study Programs of the University of Niš.

All candidates take the exam at the same time, in the same manner and under the same conditions.

The total number of candidates for the entrance exam as well as the details about the exam will be published at the web page of the Faculty two work days before the entrance exam date.

The entrance exam results are processed immediately after the exam and the final ranking list of candidates who passed the exam is formed on the basis of overall success in previous education level and success at the entrance exam, in accordance with the Article 18 of the Rulebook on Student Admission to the Study Programs of the University of Niš.

 

Article 13

The students of related undergraduate academic studies in English from other faculties, who completed a part of their study program may transfer without an entrance exam to the study program of undergraduate academic studies of Electrical Engineering and Computing in English at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering in Niš, if

  • they have earned minimum 60 ECTS credits within other programs of undergraduate academic studies;
  • they have passed all the examinations from the previous study years;
  • they submit a transfer request at the latest to the end of the term for admission to the next school year, and
  • submit with their transfer request, the request for exam recognition with the documentation as mentioned in the Article 8 of the Rulebook on Student Admission to the Study Programs of the University of Niš.

The Dean of the Faculty appoints the Commission to establish if the student has met the criteria for exam recognition and has the right to be admitted, and after the Commission’s suggestion decides on the fulfillment of the transfer criteria, stating the recognized exams and other study program obligations, obligations in further studies and acquired student status.

Article 14

This Rulebook, upon receipt of the consent of the Senate of the University of Niš, shall enter into force within eight days from the date of publication on the Faculty's website.
